I honestly think Johnny Cash's version sucks. I'm so sick of EVERYONE who all the sudden "loves" Cash now. It's so typical, a musician dies and becomes a legend. The original had soooo much meaning and in my opinion is a lot more powerful. It makes me laugh to hear cash sing such a depressing song with his country voice. Too bad he had to ruin a great song

I love both versions, but i guess i'm gonna say johnny cash's one was better just becuase i think it had some more relevance to him personally. he was on his last legs, so to sing a song about all your regrets definitely shows alot of his emotions. also i like how there is no fancyness in the video and no studio magic on the recording. I absouloutely love how you can hear the sadness in his voice. it was a quality recording that happens once in a career, but it's sad it was near the end. RIP Johnny

JC version is really good, but personally I prefer NIN's version for its emotional lyrics and its great sounds. As a fanatic fan I have to say "Hurt" is one of the best songs of the honerable and glorious Nine Inch Nails and overall one of the best songs I have ever heard.
Sometimes I see people talking crap as they say Cash's version is original, but they simply have no idea about music and are unable to see "Hurts" great value.

Johnny cash version is the best. He was a fabulous artist.

Johnny Cash is great. But his "I am a dying old man"-version of this song is grap. It's an angry song. It's full of live. And he sang it neighter angry nor fully of live. Sorry. He had done a bad job.

I love both versions, both are very different, and this song means a lot to me for reasons im not going to share. I don't really have a preference, it depends on the mood im in. I really think that this song by NIN is one of the best songs written, and i wouldn't badmouth them, or the legend of johnny cash.

Yeah, when the original artist admits the song is no longer his own, you have to agree, or show yourself up for the pathetic, narrow minded, scared of change, closed to new ideas, emo goth wannabe that you probably are. Nah, only joking - i LOVE the original.... its just that Cash made it better. What about the name for a combined Johnny Cash & Slim Dusty coverband: "DUSTY CASH - the Tribute"

This is one of the best covers anywhere. Johnny Cash was at his best later in life. But I must vote for Nine Inch Nails' original. I think it's the best thing NIN ever did, especially the live version.
