The First Cut Is The Deepest

I won't count Rod Stewart's version from 1976 because, well, it's Rod Stewart. But I'm a sucker for Sheryl Crow.

I prefer Cat's version, although I have nothing against Cheryl Crow.

Cat Stevens music is the most inspirational, soulful from the heart music I've ever heard for that he gets my vote.

I second Jim's opinion that Linda Ronstadt's version from ABC In Concert 30 years is far superior than any version I've heard including Rod Stewart's. Check out the LR video on You Tube - it will blow you away

Sheryl actually covered Rod Stewart's cover of this song. Both of these recording are very good but neither resemlbes Cat's original very much. My vote goes to the original, to Cat, the greatest singer-songwriter ever in my opinion. One note: the first time I remember hearing this song was during Cat's ABC In Concert special when Linda Ronstadt did a fantastic rendition, if I do recall correctly. It would be nice to see that again (hint).

I voted for Cat Stevens in this one. A better cover of this song i made of Papa Dee on the album "Orginal Master" (1994). This album was co-produced by Denniz Pop who has produced songs for Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and Ace of Base (among others). Maybe one reason why it's good and became some sort of hit in Sweden.

In addition to Sheryl Crow's and Rod Stewart's covers of this Stevens classic, there are two others worth noting: the first was recorded in the late 60s by The Koobas, also from the UK, and the second is an amazing reggae version--however, I am unsure of the name of the performer.

Cat Stevens get's my vote. The Crow version is devoid of any and all soul.

Although Rod Stewart in my opinion sings the definative version of "First Cut Is The Deepest" in this vote I give the nod to Cat Stevens.
