Cover vs. Original

Love Hurts

"Love Hurts" is nowadays normally associated with Nazareth. But already in 1960 the Everly Brothers sang the original version of this song. The song was sung so softly and gently, that you have to listen to it twice to recognize, that it is the same song that Nazareth covered 16 years later.
But here in my opinion the heavy style of Nazareth fits much better to this song.

What about Jon Bon Jovi

Personally I like the Roy Orbison version best, then Nazareth a close second, and lastly the original Everly Brothers version. Its too bad Orbison's version is not well known. In any case, it is one of those songs where each cover version is different and enjoyable in its own right.

Nazareth version is the best. But there is a version acustic by Bon Jovi excelent.

Don't forget the Roy Orbison version of this song. Listening to the transition from the Everly Brothers to Roy Orbison to Nazareth back to back is really fun.

I must confess to not have heard the Everly Bros original that much over the years. I've heard countless of cover versions of this ballad. But, no one comes close to Nazareth's emotional, energic, full of life, early Motown inspired version. The guitar solo still makes the hair on my body stand up. And Dan McCafferty pulls off one of his best performances thus far. Classic!.
