Love Hurts
"Love Hurts" is nowadays normally associated with Nazareth. But already in 1960 the Everly Brothers sang the original version of this song. The song was sung so softly and gently, that you have to listen to it twice to recognize, that it is the same song that Nazareth covered 16 years later.
But here in my opinion the heavy style of Nazareth fits much better to this song.

Comments about Love Hurts:
I definitely prefer the Roy Orbison version. Besides: changing the lyric (love is like a flame, vs love is like a stove) is really dumb. A flame is most likely to be hot, so why on earth sing 'love is like a flame, burns you when it's hot'? A stove can be deceiving: you don't know if the stove is hot and will burn you.
So before changing a lyric someone has been thinking over, think twice!

Well, I prefer everly bros version, but i think as well as Cary Heuchert of Vancouver, The Gram Parsons' version i thwe best.
G. pArsons wasnt very famous, but is one of the best musicans,i mean, he also was a year in the byrds(album Sweetheart fo rodeo) and was the leader of the flying burrito Bros

Nothing really touches the Nazareth version. IMHO. It sounds painful - exactly as expected by the lyric. Although the original lyric is actually "love is like a stove" vs' "love is like a flame" in the second verse. OMG - Good thing that was dispatched in recording this version.

I think the best version is Gram Parsons/Emmylou Harris' version. It can really make you cry...

Hehe... just came across the Nazareth version again on me pc... stuck it on me phone... anyway couple of days later I played to me mate Davie in the Monkey Bar, Newcastle... he's from Leith (Scotland) and used to drink with Darrell Sweet (drummer) and occasionally Dan McCafferty... there was a tear in his eye :) ... this weekend (its Thursday today) I'm going to check out other versions but I do reckon Dan was a canny singer :) ... Cheers, Richard

Heart, baby! Haven't you heard Ann Wilson singing it in "The Road Home"? Nazareth's version is quite good but there's only one Ann Wilson. The Everly Bros version kinda suck, but you have to give it to the guy who wrote such a great song.
