I won't back down
A great song! It is written by Tom Petty, who I have always liked. The original version is very good. In this special competition though, he doesn´t stand a chance. My vote for The Man In Black!

I just found out that Johnny Cash redid the song. I really like his version and i'm a huge fan of Cash but i'm also a huge fan of Tom Petty...The song came out a year after I was born and grew up with both Tom Petty and Johnny Cash in my household and always remember the song by Petty. They both do a wonderful job singing it.

Cash vs. Petty? You must be joking. Petty makes the song sound corny. When Cash sings it, he has a "been there; done that" "your wastin' your time" additute that Petty just can't match. I think Petty was holding his nose during the recording.

well i just compared both songs in their entirety and the ironic thing is you cant compare the two even though they are the same song. country vs rock n roll will never be decided because they are just too different and amusingly the same at the same time. Cash plays it with such a somber tone you get all choked up and petty plays it with such passion you feel that their will not be an end to your life but both versions do have the same feeling... that you cant be defeated no matter what gets in your way i love them both i really do but im giving it to petty because he made the song and without his lyrics there would be no song. love ya petty keep on living. love ya cash RIP
