Whiskey in the Jar
Thin Lizzys version is a classic song, but Metallica is more powerful! A hard decision!

To be fair i've only heard the metallica version a couple of times, but I have to say they murdered it. They are debasing the memory of one of the greatest songs of the 20th century! Phil Lynott is a GOD and new what he was doing when he adapted this traditional folk song. Metallica aren't bad but in this case: JUST NO!!!

Both are covers. It is a traditional Irish folk song. Noone really knows the origin of this song. It has been recorded by many artists. My favorite is the one done by Jerry Garcia and David Grisman.

Robbie, Ardee, Ireland take this as a warning NEVER slag the greatest band to ever have walked this planet and never insult the dead hero phil lynott R.I.P

Seriously, even though, i'm Irish, i have to admit that Metallica made this a great song... Phil Lynott is SOOO depressing, what a shit singer. Thin Lizzy, the most untalented band to ever come out of Ireland.. Metallica are GODS!!!!!!!!!!
- Robbie, Ardee, Ireland, 04.03.2007 |
these things really end up being about which of the bands you like or have most respect for..... in this case I guess there will also be a quite a few who never heard the Lizzy version until after they were familiar with the Metallica version.
Both are excellent and the Metallica version is an excellent update to Lizzy's rock-tackular version of the Irish folk song

The Thin Lizzy song is way better...
How anyone can brand it as awful is a mystery to me.
