Whiskey in the Jar
Thin Lizzys version is a classic song, but Metallica is more powerful! A hard decision!

Comments about Whiskey in the Jar:
THIN LIZZY covers the song from an old Irish song. The METALLICA covers the Thin Lizzy version (a cover of cover ... that's how Heavy Metal was born ... cover, cover cover ... we have all forgotten that it comes from Robert Johnson !!! CROSSROADS baby)
UP THE IRONS

That whole album is full of covers. After And Justice for All Metallica went to shit and started to write shitty music. BTW Die Die my Daring was by Misfits, Tuesday's Gone was by Lynard Skynard, Turn the Page by Bob Segar

None of these two versions is the original, however Metallica's version is based on Thin Lizzy's song. All things considered I prefer the way Metallica's version sounds.

I think this is not the case for original-cover debate. Thin Lizzy took it for granted, modifyed a few lirycs, named the girl Molly and released a song. Whereas Metallica took the sond and jammed it their own way. It sounds great and it sounds even better when you are drunk ;)

I dont´ know that Metallica´s version is a cover. The original is much better.

To be fair, Thin Lizzy didn't "write" the song... it's an old Irish drinking song.

Both are good in thier own right, but Thin Lizzys version is the original which without Metallica wouldn't be able to gain the undue credit they have. It's always easier to modify something versus creating?
