Handbags and Gladrags
While Rod Stewart's "original" was technically a cover itself (Mike D'Abo's original from a few years earlier), the Stereophonics win because... well, because they're not Rod Stewart.

Comments about Handbags and Gladrags:
happened to catch both versions live at glastonbury. Yes Rod USED to be good but even he had trouble singing it. the Phonics however performed it with such gusto the crowd revelled in it. in its time i would say yes it is good from the studio performance and beats the polished phonics album version. but hearing it live, the phonics had it nailed!

Rod's voice was the most distinctive in rock and no one has yet matched it (not even him). This song brings it all back.

Don't people realize that Rod Stewart used to be cool? Pick up his work with The Faces and the solo albums he released during that time. Real good stuff. This includes his debut from which "Handbags and Gladrags" comes from.
