Nothing Compares 2 U
Although Prince didn't record it until AFTER Sinead's version became a smash hit (he penned the song), Sinead would have outdone him anyway. It's that good.

Comments about Nothing Compares 2 U:
For me, both versions are great and I'd like to hear the one someone mentioned by Family.

Very few covers are better than the originals when it comes to most songs. Sinead's version has a spine chilling version, but Prince's version is more emotional & much more dynamic.
Sinead O'Connor's music is really good overall, but as an artist, writer, talent, and composer she couldn't hold a candle to Prince. Plus, most of her success is based off of a song that she covered more than her own original material. As a musical artist, she has to be bitter about that.

In my opinion, the best version of this song is the original recording by the Family (circa about 1986). O'Conner's version just makes me cringe - because I know how good the original truly is...

I love them both, but always bow down to his royal purpleness. He and Rosie make a believer out of anyone. Sinead did win an award with her version, if memory serves; maybe single of the year?

Prince owns this song and not only literally either!!! the guy wrote this song from real feeling where as Sinead sung this song, which she even says she dislikes, in a disguise of real emotion. Great song, but give the guy who wrote it his due... Besides, he is a better singer anyways

Are over 80% of the voters insane!? Sinead sings it as best she can and it does sounds beautiful. But you know it ain't real. She doesn't even like the damn song. When Prince and Rosie sing it, you can feel the pain and soul. I didn't even like the song until Prince justified it. Good Day.

Hey,
Sinead owns this song. There is nothing wrong with Prince's, but sineads version still gives me goosebumps

Why do I remember this song from Summer 1998? Was the Prince/Family version released in the UK then? Jane

Sinead Makes it her own, without a doubt. But the original Prince tune is the best duet he ever wrote.
