"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a great song by Nirvana. It was covered by Tori Amos a year later with in my opinion great success.

iTS LIKE COMPARING APPLES TO ORANGES. While I am one of those who thinks the original is always better, I dont think that you can even compare the two in this case. Ms. Amos didnt cover the song for profit nor for publicity. She did it because she loved the song as much as everyone and wanted to interpret it the way it sounds in her heart. Therefor I think both of these songs should be put on equal platforms.

Nirvana did an amazing thing with "Smells Like Teen Spirit", and they really did start a new era of music. They're really difficult to compare because while they're the same song technically... the cover and the original come from a different part of a heart. So I think they're both amazing!

Nirvana was a great band and their song was a breath of fresh air and changed the face of music. Tori Amos quietly emerged around the same time. One of these acts is still with us. I never listen to Nirvana anymore. It's just not the same. I listen to Tori all the time. Her version is timeless and captures the song's essence.

I like the original by Nirvana much better. With this song Nirvana started a new era of music, the Grunge. What Tori Amos did with this song is for me destroys this song.
