Cover vs. Original

This Woman's Work

God, I love both of these versions. Such a beautiful song. Maxwell does a tremendous job of capturing the essence. Remarkable since he's a male, naturally. His falsetto gives the song a more soulful & seductive sound. But Bush's warmth & tender beauty keeps drawing me in. If I want sleak & sexy though, I'd go with Maxwell.

I'm a 40 year old father of 3 and Maxwell's cover makes me tear up every time. As a musician, I get the whole original artist thing, but I may as well be hearing Cyndi Lauper when I hear Kate's voice... Maxwell all the way.

Can never beat the original. Kate made it, bush owns it. Now shut the hell up. Maxwell is an un original copy cat thats it! Kate is unique in everyway. She's not just a musician, but an artist and performer. Lay off.

Saying that Kate is singing her OWN feelings is wrong because the song was actually written for a movie scene.
Of course Kate should be honored for creating this outstanding masterpiece. And as well Maxwell has to be honored for giving the masterpiece a new level and more open ears.
Now for real both FEEL the song's idea ... And I know many people who can sing Kate's version perfectly but no one can sing this great song like Maxwell.
In addition I know many people who can create songs but no one can create something equal like Kate did.
So guys, please stop hating Maxwell ... He's the one adoring Kate's song more than anyone else, I think! Why else would an artist like Maxwell, who produced and wrote tons of songs like "Pretty Wings" by himself, do a cover of a song?
Please, respect that just like the others have to respect that there won't be no Maxwell-version without Kate.

I've been listening to the Maxwell version since a little girl.I just recently heard about the Bush version and thought it was a very beautiful however it took me back to high school choir where all the girls sounded the same and there was no unique style in the sound.I hated choir I thought everything was stiff and bland making my joy of singing unpleasurable. While kate Bush has a beautiful voice and song writing talent her voice is to me by the book.I understand she is from England where it is normal to enunciate but this just isn't my style or in my case it has no style. Her voice is pretty standard for me I've heard a hundred voices like it.My vote is with Maxwell here.

Kate Bush. No contest for me. Maxwell's version is a good cover of a beautifully crafted song, but ultimately superfluous. Unlike other great covers (eg, Nothing Compares 2U), I don't feel his version really adds enough to be note worthy. Very nice, but for me the original is clearly superior.

I like both versions of this song. However, I believe Maxwell's version sounds much sexier and reaches out to me more than Kate Bush's. However, it is to each his/her own. I prefer Maxwell's but I would understand why others could differ. Cheers.

I prefer Maxwell's version of the song because his voice is more soothing than Kate's. Kate is owed much respect for beig the original writer of the song but my preference for performance is Maxwell.

Though this song IS about childbirth from a man's point of view, I'm sorry, but Maxwell's lacks the emotional impact that Kate's has. (Not to mention the falsetto just doesn't do it for me).

It's very wonderful because it sound so sensual and very relaxing for me to hear his wonderful falsetto voice.
