Blue Suede Shoes
Even though both versions are great and even though Elvis Presley's cover seems to be a bit well more known,I still prefer to listen to Carl Perkin's original version instead.

Comments about Blue Suede Shoes:
I have to go with Carl on this one. Elvis was already honing his crooner-as-rockabilly mannerisms. Carl's straightforward performance is like a drink of spring water.

This is Carl Perkins' song.
Period.

Elvis version is certainly more well known, but there is something just a bit more authentic about Carl Perkins' recording of his own song. There is a reason why Perkins' recording was on the R&B charts, it was on the country charts, it was No. 1 on the rock and roll charts in 1955.

Elvis version is a bit too rushed. No disrespect, it still was an awesome cover. Elvis was great! He could sing anything and make it sound like his own. Just like Ray Charles. But I like Carl Perkins version better though. Carl has that raunchy Rockabilly sound that does it for me.

I actually prefer Carl's. They sound pretty darn close anyway, and I just like his a little better.

Perkin's version is ok, but Presley puts more of the rock feeling into it

I have a late version (circa 1975?) by Carl Perkins. He sounds terrible. I know it is not fair to pick that instead of his early records, but sorry, that is the only one I know. On the other hand, Elvis totally belts it. GO King!
